A Few of my Favorite FIRE Resources

Welcome back!

I've made the point a couple of times that serving in the military is a different financial circumstance than most jobs. We move a lot....our spouses sometimes can't work....we have strange tax benefits....our pay is completely linear and transparent....our retirement system and benefits are almost unheard of today....etc. Hence, our Captain FIRE blog.

However, there are lots of good FIRE websites out there that can give you the broad overview of the movement and other tips and tricks for your FIRE journey. I've listed my favorites below -- enjoy!

Mr. Money Mustache -- the "godfather" of FIRE, MMM lives right up I-25 from me. He realized he and his wife could be better parents to their kids if they weren't working. And they made it happen. Read here if you're interested in the super frugal side of FIRE.

Our Next Life -- need some inspiration? Tanja and Mark detail their amazing life in retirement and how they got there. I jump on their site when I really want to start another renovation....to remind myself of what I'm working for! Check it out here.

The Mad FIentist -- I devour this podcast! Our host takes a tax-focused look at achieving FIRE in his blog, but his podcasts are worthy of a binge-listen while you're out on your daily run. Find him here.

Early Retirement Extreme -- the OG of FIRE. Not a fancy set-up but a solid back-to-basics approach to FIRE. Start with the manifesto and then check out his book on how to achieve your FIRE goals in 5 years here.
